Teaching context and philosophy

My teaching philosophy is framed by a belief that all learners can achieve a lifelong love of learning when they are encouraged to recognise the connection between medical education, healthcare delivery, and patient safety.

I am an education-focused academic who has made high-level contributions to education at institutional, national and international levels. My innovations in education received recognition amongst UNSW students, faculty and speciality trainees. I am the host and producer of 6 different educational podcast series, which are hosted on my educational website Critical Care Education (www.critcareedu.com.au). 

I take great pride in delivering high-quality evidence-based teaching and am humbled by the feedback that I receive from my trainees and peers. I am a strong believer in Free Open Access Medical Education (FOAMed) campaign. I have completed my advanced simulation instructor fellowship with the Centre of Medical Simulation in Boston. I am a certified healthcare simulation educator (CHSE) with the Society of Simulation in Healthcare and am currently working on designing and implementing a simulation-based curriculum for UNSW medical students at St George Clinical school.

Also, I was the inaugural fellow of the Museum Healthcare educator fellowship programme co-sponsored by Harvard Macy Institute and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. I am regular faculty at Health Professional Educator's course conducted by Harvard Macy Institute. 

I have successfully completed a curriculum design certificate from Maastricht University in 2019 and I am currently pursuing my PhD in the field of Cognitive load theory with a primary focus on working memory resource depletion secondary to emotional changes.

I am the convener and the founder of various educational workshops which include - How to Have Hard Conversations, Bronchoscopy for Intensivists, Advanced Hemodynamic Workshop, Resternotomy workshop. 

I am the course director for Advanced Life Support 1and 2, BASIC and Beyond BASIC for mechanical ventilation workshops. I regularly instruct on ALS instructor course instructor workshops conducted by the Australian Resuscitation Council. 

My educational leadership experience extends across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. In addition to my school and faculty roles, I was elected as a Chair of the ANZICS Education Committee.  

I am a trained mediator and accredited as per National Mediator Accreditation Standard. Also, I am a proud member of the Australian Army and am currently serving as a Captain with 3 HSB.
