I have initiated a series of get togethers for conveners of large first year courses in Science. We meet two-three times a year to discuss pressing issues and share practice. At the start of term 1 2020 we got together to discuss everyone’s plans for the introduction of flexibility week. I find these meet ups very useful, I think they are particularly useful to people new to convening large first year courses. I would have benefitted from having a network of first year conveners when I was new to this role.
I also assembled the team which introduced SciX, https://www.science.unsw.edu.au/engagement/scix-school-extension-program . SciX is a project which gets keen high school students to UNSW to do a one week project over summer. The executive team consists of Dr Shannan Maisey, Dr Laura McKemmish and myself. In collaboration with Troy Garrett, the 2019 Physics Visiting teaching fellow we managed to get projects contributed from every school within the faculty.
