As First Year Director from 2011-2023 for the School of Physics, I coordinated courses with over 3500 enrolments each year. To put this into context, in the past year I coordinated around 45% of the EFSLs taught by Physics, and around 6% of the EFSLs taught by the Faculty of Science. I consider making these courses run effectively and efficiently as the core of my job at UNSW.
As first year director I coordinate large teams of staff including academics lecturing into first year courses and around 50 casual staff who teach in problem solving workshops and labs. Through working with staff I have transformed first year physics from a very traditionally taught course to a course with many more active learning techniques employed throughout.
