Delivery of course content

Health, Exercise and Sport Psychology course content is delivered by lectures and tutorials. Students are provided with support and feedback to achieve the learning outcomes. Lectures from senior clinicians/researchers are intended to inspire students to learn how to apply theory and research to their clinical practice. The students are given an opportunity to apply these learnings to the development of communication skills during the tutorials, under the supervision of trained psychologists. Students are encouraged to become partners in their learning by role playing triads, a common psychological skill training method. Students are encouraged to draw upon their own experiences and perspectives during role-playing triads to reflect diversity in the student and broader communities. Students are encouraged to practice the skills between lectures/tutorials and provide group feedback on barriers and facilitators to their developing skills. Two formative quizzes with feedback enhance student learning by identifying weaknesses in understanding. Summative assessment is by multiple choice examination to evaluate knowledge and understanding and viva to evaluate the development of communication skills.
