In 2020, I took on the role of co-convenor of the Neuroscience Fundamentals (NEUR2201) course. This is a stage 2 introductory course with approximately 80-90 students enrolled each year. On reviewing the course structure and content, one of the major issues I found with the course was its Moodle layout which had page after page of content and links to material, inconsistent format, font style and size. This not only made the course look very chaotic; it was very difficult to navigate and quickly find the relevant information. This sentiment was echoed in the 2020 myExperience survey comments: ‘The course was overall extremely disorganised… I never have been in such a "messy" course.’
Hence, when I took over as convenor in 2021, the first thing I did was to re-structure the Moodle page and introduce the use of E-books with all lecture material, practical lab material and tutorial material in its own E-book for each topic module. I also added a weekly checklist. The clearer Moodle structure, ease of navigating the page and use of a checklist were appreciated by many students in the myExperience survey comments: ‘Clear module structure’; ‘Loved the ebook on moodle and the overall structure, was very clear where everything was’; ‘…moodle page was easy to access and information was readily available’; ‘The layout of the Moodle page is amazing! It’s easy to find everything I need, and I really enjoy having the weekly checklist…It’s helped me keep on track’.
