Nomination for UNSW Students' Choice Teaching Award 2022

The Students' Choice Teaching Award is nominated and judged by students to recognise educators who go above and beyond, who inspire and challenge students and support their development as people and professionals.

In 2022 I was nominated for the UNSW Student's Choice Teaching Award, with the following student nomination statement:

"At a time, where uni feels especially alienating, Dr Trevor Lewis tries to accommodate all his students in whatever way he can. Taking the time, even as a senior lecturer, to type up even slight suggestions or comments for online students, providing transcripts of lectures, checking in to see if you're alright during the term. He's enthusiastic, incredibly intelligent and kind. He tries to keep updated on the best methods to teach and facilitate a course. A great teacher, you always feel you've learnt something interacting with him and he'll always take the time to get back to you.

He was the first and only lecturer/tutor to contact me specifically about my learning plan and want to spend the time to discuss if there were any ways he could support my learning in class as someone registered with ELS. It meant the absolute world to me. It may be a small gesture but it transformed my experience from having to request and validate my needs to wanting to be heard and included. This in turn, made me want to study and engage more with the content and set off the entire term wonderfully for me. And, I know from other students he's reached out and tried to do the same."
