UNSW Learning and Teaching Forums

Participating in the Learning and Teaching Forums at UNSW provides an inspiring setting for sharing learning and teaching practices from across the university. Having listened to how others have approached student engagement, innovations in active learning, or effective use of assessments, it has caused me to reflect on my own teaching practice in these areas and how I might improve. It is from a presentation and discussions with Jonathan Kress (School of Mathematics and Statistics) that I was inspired to develop self-paced, online lessons on solving biophysical problems in neuroscience. I have also been inspired by many presentations on teamwork to reflect on how teamwork is assessed, and to realise the importance of developing a framework for students to identify and build their teamwork skills. Presenting my own work at the Forums is an opportunity to focus my attention more critically on specific aspects of my teaching practice, and reflect on what things work well and why. The presentations provide a starting point for expanding my network of educators across the university and for receiving valuable feedback and sharing related experiences.
