Teaching context and philosophy

Tegan started teaching at a Tertiary level in February 2021 when she commenced her PhD at the University of Newcastle. Having always loved education and studying herself, she quickly became passionate about being on the other end of the classroom too. Whilst completing her PhD, Tegan continued to work at UoN in various capacities. This included marking across 18 different courses and teaching for 10. One of these courses, Tegan Convened from the start of 2023 until the end of 2025 - the course being the largest in the Open Foundation program with enrolments peaking at over 900 students. Tegan was also an Associate Lecturer in the Joint Medical Program at UoN, from 2022 until 2025. Prior to starting at UNSW, Tegan also convened a Masters level course for Victoria University Online.
Since starting at UNSW in December 2025, Tegan has convened HLTH3000 and EXPT3220. Through these courses, Tegan supports students in the School of Health Sciences to develop an understanding of mental health and Psychology concepts.

My teaching philosophy has been developing further as I engage more in Academia, but what has remained since I started teaching in my early 20s, when I too was still a student, was promoting a love for learning. For me, it is paramount to make education fun and engaging so that students actually want to learn and thus, hopefully retain that knowledge. I also have a focus on well-being and mental health, especially when teaching students that study other disciplines.
