Academic advisor Sutherland Hospital

From the 2024 phase 3 cohort, 14 students were unsuccessful in their resit exams and as such, are repeating the academic year. 3 of these students have been allocated to Sutherland Hospital, and are obviously at high risk of burnout, breasch of academic integrity as well as deterioration in their wellbeing.

The Academic group were approached for Nominations for a Academic advisor to meet with the students, help plan their study, answer questions on the approach to repeating year 3 as well as offer support services if appropriate. I nominated myself and have already met with the Students at the start of their year.

I have a passion for supporting the Junior members of our Medical teams in Hospitals, and this extends to Medical Students as well. I believe the emotional and mental health can be improved by my involvement .Discussing coping mechanisms, rationale for mindfulness exercises, avenues for support as well as accommodations that can be made; these are all only going to give them a better chance of success.
