As Presiding Member of the UNSW Human Research Ethics Committees, I led improvements to the ethics review process for scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) applications. At the request of the Director of the Scientia Education Academy, I identified the need for education-focused expertise on low-risk ethics panels and led the appointment of appropriately experienced reviewers. In collaboration with the Research Ethics and Compliance Support team, I also contributed to the development of a dedicated SoTL pathway within the human research ethics approval process at UNSW. These changes have improved access to timely, discipline-appropriate ethics advice for education researchers across UNSW faculties and campuses, supporting them to undertake rigorous evaluation of teaching innovations and disseminate the resulting improvements in learning and teaching.
