Leadership at National Level

Since 2016, I have played an increasingly prominent leadership role within the national body for health professional education: the Australian & New Zealand Association for Health Professional Educators (ANZAHPE).

From 2018 to 2020, I served as the President of ANZAHPE. In this role, I provided strategic leadership to this bi-national association and play a key role in driving initiatives that enhance the quality of education. I initiated activities to expand the ANZAHPE research grants scheme, secured funding to develop an Australian-New Zealand Inter-Professional Education Knowledge Repository, and oversaw major efforts to refresh the association through upgrading of the website, member management system, and by setting up mechanisms to drive key initiatives related to professional development.

Further to my inclusive and collaborative approach to leadership. I was invited to Chair the ANZAHPE Fellowship scheme (2023 onwards). In this role I  lead the peer-review of applications for recognition as ANZAHPE Fellows, and play a key role in mentoring emerging health professional educators. From 2015-2018 I also held the the position of Editor, ANZAHPE Bulletin, and led the way in redefining the role of the bulletin.

These leadership positions have enabled me to play a critical role in ongoing discussions related to Health Professional Education, and to initiate some key activities to enhance quality at a national level. I am currently expanding on these activities in my role as the Chair of the ANZAHPE subcommittee for External Collaborations. In that role, I have established strategic collaborations with associations with similar focus in Asia, Europe (AMEE) and the USA (IAMSE).
