Presented my work on compassionate assessment and creativity at the UNSW Education Festival 2024, here is the abstract for that talk:
"While the structures that define the way we live in our world are in a state of constant change, the rate of this change and its impact has never been more profound in current times. The exponential rise of disinformation, challenges to humanity through radicalization, artificial intelligence, wars, the increasing divide between haves and have-nots, etc. continues to re-define the world we live and work in. These challenges require a compassionate, caring and creative humanity. Education, and higher education in particular, will play a crucial role in the type of world we live in.
Inclusive approaches to teaching, learning and assessments, using strengths-based pedagogies, that enable human centric aspects that leverage modern technologies such as A.I. in meaningful, compassionate ways will help students develop the skills and attitudes for the future of work, harnessing the creativity of humanity. While A.I. and other technologies provide efficiencies at scale, the human element is what defines how these technologies will be used and what legacy it will have.
This presentation will share some ideas already used in some of the courses in the School of Information Systems and Technology Management, and how these ideas can be scaled to other areas of the university."
