Inspires and motivates students from diverse backgrounds to engage in critical thinking and active learning

As a Lecturer (Education Focused) in UNSW Medicine, I inspire students from diverse backgrounds to engage critically with biomedical and clinical knowledge through inclusive, inquiry-based learning. In Phase 1 scenario groups, I create a safe and supportive environment that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and respect for different perspectives.

My teaching philosophy is student-centred: I guide discussion rather than deliver answers, encouraging students to challenge assumptions, integrate scientific evidence, and apply concepts to authentic patient scenarios. I use a blend of small-group dialogue, technology-enabled resources, and peer learning activities to enhance engagement and accommodate diverse learning needs.

Feedback from students consistently highlights the clarity of my explanations, the supportive nature of my facilitation, and the way I make complex concepts accessible. By fostering critical thinking, empathy, and resilience, I aim not only to develop students’ knowledge but also to nurture the professional qualities required of future doctors.
