Teaching context and philosophy

Dr Aidan Tan is an Australian paediatric doctor whose work is driven by a simple conviction: the quality of healthcare depends on the quality of the institutions behind it.

He combines clinical practice with public governance, medical regulation, academic medicine and health policy to strengthen the organisations, standards and systems that support Australia's health system.

Aidan serves as a Practitioner Member of the Medical Board of Australia and holds board appointments across healthcare, disability, aged care, education, research and community organisations. He continues to practise as a paediatric doctor at Sydney Children's Hospital, ensuring his governance and policy work remains grounded in the realities of patient care.

He is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney, Conjoint Associate Lecturer at the University of New South Wales and Research Affiliate at Sydney Children's Hospital. His research focuses on research integrity, evidence-informed healthcare, health equity and the governance of health research, with publications in leading international journals, including The Lancet.
