In 2024 Mitchell established the Level 3 Health, Safety, and Environment committee for the School of Health Sciences. This involved writing a constitution, terms of reference, and obtaining approval from faculty and UNSW safety. 

Since implementing this committee, Mitchell now sits as chair with the representatives being from each individual discipline in the school. Mitchell has implemented streamlined approaches for ensuring casual staff complete mandatory training, as evidenced by the schools increase in the completion of these modules. Additionally, Mitchell has created and implemented course level risk assessment and induction processes to ensure safety and compliance in all courses. This is being evidenced by the representatives periodically auditing safety documents at a curse and discipline level.
