In addition to Chair of CLAC, I sit on numerous other committees and working groups. For example, at the Faculty level, I was selected in a competitive application process at the start of 2017 to be an inaugural member of the Medicine Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (MEDIC). This is an important role in terms of delivering on the social justice agenda for UNSW and I immediately took on the remit of addressing low socioeconomic status (LSES) student selection in the medical program. Initial data collection and consultation with stakeholders in 2017 resulted in drafting of a new selection pathway in 2018, followed by a scan for funding options. Working with the Leadership team, Faculty agreed to commit to 50% of the funding required to enact this pathway, with implementation in time for student selection in 2021. I believe that UNSW Medicine and Health must fulfil its role as a responsible member of the community and specifically its duties in terms of equity and diversity in regard to training the doctors of tomorrow, and deliver on UNSW 2025 Strategy Theme B1: A Just Society, Objective 1, since evidence shows that doctors from HSES backgrounds do not achieve as good outcomes for LSES patients as they do for patients who more closely match their own background. In 2021, Faculty selected four additional students to enter through the Gateway Pathway, with scholarships.

Evidence of Impact:

1. The LSESS Admissions Scheme will shift our practice such that the backgrounds of our graduating doctors in future will more closely resemble the community at large.
   • My proposal will entail total costs of $600,000 per year (covering 60 students in the program at any one time). Faculty have committed to funding half of this scheme internally ($300k/year).
2. Senior Fellow of AdvanceHE – In 2018, in recognition of my significant and sustained contribution to the education effort at UNSW, particularly in the leadership and professional development of others, in CLAC, MEDIC and others outlined elsewhere in my portoflio, I was awarded this international fellowship.
