Smart Sparrow Migration/Exam Question Construction

The University of New South Wales has always placed an emphasis on developing and integrating interactive materials into their courses. Initially, Smart Sparrow was a powerful resource to facilitate this goal. However, in late 2020 this platform was acquired by Pearson necessitating the migration of all learning activities to new platforms including Moodle and H5P. Specifically, I was responsible for migrating  the Cytopathology Virtual Microscopy Adaptive Tutorials. As I was new to these platforms at the time, it was an enormous learning curve to migrate these activities into Moodle while simultaneously preserving the interactiveness (within the limitations of moodle) that made them so effective for the Faculty of Medicine. Furthermore, it was a useful exercise as an academic to interact with the material presented in these courses and we were given the liberty to modify each activity to make the content more rich and adaptive for the students. Given the stringent time constraints to facilitate this migration we had to work quickly and effectively without compromising the quality of our work. Fortunately, we were successful in this endeavour and these materials were available for Phase I Medicine in 2021, a success of significant importance as we entered the second COVID-19 lockdown and lost the luxury of face to face tuition.

Assisting in this migration was essential in developing the skills necessary to generate content that aligns with course learning outcomes. More recently I have been tasked with generating exam style questions for PATH3205 - Molecular Basis of Disease and without the experience garnered over this time period, it would have been impossible to generate quality material that accurately assesses student performance.
