The week in review

Asynchronous and remote learning activities provide flexibility to students and has increasingly become a fixture for the online learning space. Yet having direct access to lecturers are a vital component for ensuring a student-centric program that gives space to all learners who want to retain the flexibility of online access. For the majority of my undergraduate courses, live sessions were conducted using BB Collaborate, although I have also used MS Teams for my postgraduate tutorials. Each come with their own set of benefits - the greater access of writing tools on the slides itself has really created a forum for safe questions and this has been much more accessible with BB Collaborate. MS Teams has improved recording facilities and the inclusion of my video in the recording leads to improved student connections.

These weekly review sessions were introduced in 2021 born out of necessity from the second lockdown and I found it opened opportunities for me to elaborate on core concepts and to clear areas of confusions. It also creates a space for students to cement their understanding with quizzes, live polls and the use of the writing tool on slides (as mentioned above) can sometimes lead to a lively and collegiate learning session.

In this year 97.6% students who responded to the myExperience survey felt they belonged to a learning community.
