Introduction of a new curriculum for phase 3 in the Discipline of Critical Care
In 2023, I led the implementation of a new curriculum for the Discipline of Critical Care, detailing learning objectives and assessments to ensure final-year medical students are well-prepared for the workplace. The updated curriculum introduced an end-of-term viva assessment, serving as a valuable low-stakes programmatic assessment to evaluate students' medical knowledge, synthesis skills, and communication ability. In 2024, an examination committee was established, encompassing experts from all three specialties, to widen and refine our breadth of examination topics and processes for the Integrated Clinical Examination. I am actively involved in crafting and reviewing all Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs), management viva scenarios, and OSCE questions, accompanied by detailed marking rubrics for the examination.
Impact: Upon reviewing the Integrated Clinical Examination results for 2023, the Discipline of Critical Care demonstrated notable performance compared to other disciplines and the previous year (2022).
