Redesign of Course Content for PATH3205 (Molecular Basis of Disease)

PATH3205 was a course that converted to full online delivery susccessfully during the pandemic as it had invested in online resources prior to the pandemic. The student satisfaction with the course was at an all time high (MyExperience ratings) in 2020 but declined below the school median in the next two years. Therefore, I led a major course re-design in 2022 focussing on more face-to-face activities. An online only practical class was removed and remaining practical classes were taught face-to-face, the tutorials were made face-to-face again and the number was increased from 5 to 8. The content was also simplified and streamlined by arranging in to four modules that connects to one another and to other specialised Pathology courses taught for third-year students. The assessments were based on the educational principle of constructive alignment, and they were phrased as case scenarios to avoid generative AI created answers ensuring equity for all students.  This redesigned version of the course was taught for the first time in 2023 with good feedback noted from students and student representatives, improved MyExperience course ratings and a 14% increase in course enrolments for the subsequent year (2024).
