A mixed-methods approach was used to explore the experiences and ideas of senior medical students and recent graduates from the University of New South Wales. Students emphasised the importance of clinical relevance, hands-on experience, and structured learning opportunities to build confidence.

In our discussion, we explore the anchoring of these themes with adult learning theory and suggest a blended approach — combining structured teaching, online learning with self-assessment, and meaningful clinical exposure — as the ideal response to learners’ needs.
