Designs and delivers educational workshops to Exercise Physiology staff

Moodle Tips for T2 Convenors (45mins) - May 2021

Jessica delivered this short multi-modal workshop to upskill Exercise Physiology staff in their understanding and use of Moodle. Seven academics (5 combined track, 2 education focussed) staff attended this workshop (4 face-to-face, 3 online). Topics included:

  • The creation and use of 'groups' including; group self-selection, group assignment submission & the use of peer evaluation
  • Timeline tracking features - e.g., setting 'expected date of completion' on activities, monitoring student completion of tasks (messaging students based on completion status), setting restrictions on activities
  • Linking to external UNSW resources - e.g., Leganto
  • Examples of various course layouts, including the use of; visual weekly timetables, 'books' to layout course material, and the use of the Moodle workshop tool

The recording of this workshop has been shared across schools (School of Medical Sciences), intending to upskill additional UNSW staff members (Department of Anatomy).

Using the Perceived Utility of Learning Technologies Scale (PULTS), Exercise Physiology staff (n = 6) indicated high overall satisfaction with this workshop. There was a significant increase in staff's self-reported rating of their understanding of Moodle after this workshop (Figure 1).

How to incorporate 'Zeetings' to increase online student engagement (30mins) - July 2021

Jessica delivered this short online workshop to upskill Exercise Physiology staff in their understanding and use of the Zeetings platform. Six academics (3 combined track, 3 education focussed) staff attended this workshop (online). Given the increased delivery of synchronous online learning, Jessica showcased the Zeetings platform as a way to increase student interaction and engagement. All 6 academics created a Zeetings account and trialled the various interactive features including; polling of students, creation of word clouds, student text responses and the use of ratings scales.

Within 1 month of delivery of this workshop, one EF academic utilised the knowledge gained, choosing to use the Zeetings platform in the delivery of 3x 2hr synchronous online tutorials & 1x1hr discussion forum (4th year Exercise Physiology students). The academic reported that 'Zeetings was so quick to create an interactive online tutorials, particularly with the quick turn around from originally planned face-to-face to online delivery. I think it made student engagement easier' (Teams comment from Ms Nancy van Doorn). This academic also received student feedback following these uplifted classes, reporting that they 'thought that the anonymous question submission was great! And obviously enjoyed the tute' (Teams comment from student).

Using the Perceived Utility of Learning Technologies Scale (PULTS), Exercise Physiology staff (n = 5) indicated high overall satisfaction with this workshop. There was a significant increase in staff's self-reported rating of their understanding of Zeetings platform after this workshop (Figure 2).
