Engagement in further pedagogical learning

Prior to my initial appointment in March 2017, I was a casual tutor in UNSW Exercise Physiology from 2011-2016 (small group teaching only). While this experience was invaluable in helping me develop an understanding of what is required of teachers in the tertiary setting, I received little formal training during this time. To reconcile this, since commencing my current position I have made a concerted effort to engage in a variety of seminars, workshops and courses to develop my teaching abilities to align with best pedagogical practice. Most notably, I completed the Foundations of Undergraduate Learning and Teaching and have completed 2/4 subjects required for the Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching. Participation in this formal training has significantly enhanced my understanding of important pedagogical practices, in particular the importance of good assessment practices and feedback to improve student learning.

Additional to the abovementioned formal education I have undertaken, I have regularly attended workshops and seminars that have further assisted in my development as a teacher. These include:

  • Turnitin, rubrics and feedback in Moodle (17/07/2019)
  • Making videos, screen capture and DIY lecture recordings (28/02/2019)
  • Astra overview and demo – course convenor (12/11/2018)
  • Exercise Physiology Multiple choice question writing workshop (12/07/2018)
  • Lecture Recordings + Workshop (05/07/2018)
  • 3+ Assessment Workshop: Designing course assessments (04/04/2018)
