Member of Accredited Exercise Scientist Professional Standards Committee

The professional standards describe the knowledge and skills expected of entry level exercise and sports science professionals. The Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES) Standards are based on the minimum knowledge and skills required to work in all areas of exercise science. The AES Standards aim to guide development of exercise science courses that lead to an Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Level 7 Bachelor Degree qualification. The AES Professional Standards are presented as fourteen standards covering the core sub-discipline areas of the exercise science field. Each individual standard includes a guiding principle that outlines intent, with elements of performance of professional outcomes. The core values and expectations of an Accredited Exercise Scientist are described in the Professional Attributes, which bring together the individual standard areas in a context that applies across all aspects of Exercise Science practice. Throughout 2019, I served as a member of the AES Professional Standards committee and was instrumental in developing the revised version of the standards. My participation in FULT and further learning was helpful in this regard as developing the standards required sound knowledge of Bloom's taxonomy and how to write leaning outcomes. I am currently acting on the Professional Standards committee for the revised Accredited Exercise Physiology standards as well.
