I have Co-convened or Convened multiple courses over the years. My first convening experience was that of the Medicine module of the Advanced Science: Professional Perspective and Practice (SCIF1121) course between 2014 and 2016. I was also appointed Co-convenor of a third year Neurophysiology (NEUR3221) course; acknowledgement of my level of knowledge in Neuroscience and my superiority in, and contributions, to teaching. In 2019, I was appointed a 0.6FT Lecturer position in the Department of Pharmacology, SoMS, and the Co-convenor of the third year Clinical Pharmacology for Health and Exercise Science (PHAR3111) course. This is acknowledgement and evidence of my knowledge and expertise in molecular science, in particular ion channels and receptors.
My appointment as an Education Focussed academic in the Department of Physiology, SoMS, in 2020 also saw me appointed as the Co-convenor of a second year Neuroscience Fundamentals (NEUR2201) course, of which I am currently the Convenor of. This is acknowledgement of my skills as a teacher, and evidence of respect for my level of knowledge.
My commitment to Honours students and their success led to my appointment as Co-convenor of the Neuroscience Honours program (20-25 students) with sole convenorship from 2022. Convening Neuroscience Honours not only involves guiding the students, but also engaging with senior academics on the Honours committee and mentoring the students. My unique mix of skills was a critical factor in the decision to appoint me this role: "As a practicing neuroscientist she can talk the language and understands the nature of the projects and challenges that supervisors and students will undertake. Her education skillset enables her to assist the convenors of the coursework modules in the program to pitch their material at an appropriate level, and to manage this complex course where the Moodle and Astra backends are non-standard".
