Facilitating the use of Team-Based Learning around UNSW

I am a pioneer in Team-Based Learning (TBL) at UNSW. Designed by Larry Michaelsen, TBL is a evidence-based structure method to teach content through individual and teamwork in a carefully scaffolded manner. My courses were the first fully TBL courses at UNSW, and I designed them from scratch.

Alex Bannigan (Educational Innovation Manager, UNSW Faculty of Engineering) remarked "Also of particular note is the way he has championed the use of TBL in courses in other Engineering Schools, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine. He has chaired an Engineering Education Lunchtime Roundtable on managing the 3+ schedule effectively and is facilitating a workshop on TBL for Engineering academics later this year. Stuart also participated in the inaugural Engineering Course Design Institute in 2018 as a TBL expert for a “Pedagogy Speed Dating” activity. As a result of his involvement in this initiative, at least three other Engineering academics incorporated TBL in their courses."
