I strive to motivate students to engage in critical thinking and active learning “student exemplar feedback comments”

To empower students with critical thinking, I ask more than just surface-level questions (in-depth questioning strategies), which motivate them to dig up background knowledge and develop answers with sound reasoning. I further inspire them to connect to real-world scenarios that make learning meaningful and memorable.

I promote thinking through questions like

  • Could you elaborate further on that point?
  • Would you give me an example?
  • Do you need to consider another point of view?
  • could you express that point in another way?

In addition, I continuously endeavour to provide my students with a learning environment where they feel supported and encouraged to discuss. I foster interactions and relationships with all students that are based on mutual respect, care, empathy and warmth; being sensitive to the individual needs, emotions, culture and beliefs of students.

Here are a few examples of student feedback reflecting my teaching skills:

"He always encourage student to participate and provide feedback when students answer the question. He is so patient and nice."

"very much facilitated group discussion and didn't spoon feed answers – he gave space for input and mistakes and still ensured everyone was able to understand the concepts"

"Deepak encouraged everyone to participate and explained concepts that we didn't understand. He facilitated good discussion in our group."

"He was very knowledgable about the PBL topics that we were covering. Encouraged a lot of discussion in the class. Very friendly and thus the class didn't feel intimidating so it made it easy for students to want to speak up."

"I'm so thankful that I had Deepak as my PBL teacher. He had so much knowledge and wisdom which he shared with all of us. I really liked how Deepak encouraged problem solving, but then chimed in to help lead the disucssion in the right direction. I also felt that Deepak encouraged a community of fun and allowed every person to feel comfortable. His feedback for the PBL's were also really helpful."
