Engaging and Inclusive Learning Spaces

I design each teaching session with the aim of creating an engaging and personally connected learning environment. This inclusivity takes shape in a variety of ways. This may include brief ice-breaker activities that encourage peer bonding and help me learn about students’ diverse backgrounds, including our international and rural cohorts (to begin every scenario group session). Beyond structured teaching, I actively contribute to the broader student experience. I have participated in events such as the 2024 UNSW MedShow (providing a voice-over performance) and SBMS Discipline Connect Week (helped design the “Amazing Race” activity to connect senior Medical Science students). The effectiveness of these practices has been supported by myExperience results. Specifically, since 2022 (see below), I’ve maintained received near 100% agreement for the “Encouraged Participation” component of the myExperience survey (consistently higher than faculty, school and university rates). Raw student comments from the surveys (see below), further reinforce the effectiveness of these practices in cultivating engagement and inclusion.
